Twilight sleep
Every fifth German says they suffer from dental anxiety. For 5%, this fear is even so pronounced that they do not visit a dentist even in the case of severe pain. Even if you do not belong to this group, many patients are from experience very happy not to have to experience a surgical procedure completely. General anesthesia is only necessary in the rarest of cases. Much gentler is an alternative form of anesthesia: the so-called twilight sleep.
Alternative anesthetic method
The so-called “conscious sedation” is a gentle alternative. Here, a so-called sedative is administered via the arm, which achieves a state of deep calm and relaxation. Fear and anxiety are reduced and any existing gag reflex can often be significantly reduced thanks to twilight sleep.
Gentle method
Throughout the treatment you can breathe on your own and remain responsive, but you are in a comfortable twilight state.
After the procedure, you will remain in the practice for the duration of the recovery phase and can then be discharged home accompanied by a collection person.
Compared to general anaesthesia, “conscious sedation” is a gentle and cost-effective way of making even extensive surgical procedures as comfortable and relaxed as possible for you.
